  • Tour guide for the National Trust for Scotland, Culross Palace, Fife (2001)
  • Museum Assistant, East Lothian Council Museums and Library Service, Dunbar Town House (2002-2005) followed by several years as a volunteer at the museum with Dunbar & District History Society
  • Appearances on BBC’ Reporting Scotland and STV’s evening news on witches. Also brief talk on Radio Scotland on witches.
  • Talk at the National Library of Scotland May-fest programme (2008) on the witches of Scotland
  • Periodic talks to history societies in East Lothian, Berwickshire and Fife on the witch-hunt in these areas.
  • Foot tours (seasonal) in Dunbar High Street and the harbour area. ‘Close Encounters’ will resume in Easter 2015 throughout the season. Contact Dunbar Trades’ Association for details.


  • Recording grave monument inscriptions and transcribing mort cloth records, Dunbar Parish Church for Dunbar & District History Society (2002-2010). Published on CD and available from the Society, Town House Museum, High Street, Dunbar, East Lothian
  • Transcribing Spott Burial records for the Scottish Genealogical Society, Edinburgh
  • Transcribing poor law case records for the John Gray Centre Haddington’s Poor Law Survey (Dunbar) from 1802 to 1930.
  • Research on historical aspects of the harbours at Dunbar for Dunbar Harbour Trust (on-going)
  • Research on the High Street closes in Dunbar for East Lothian Council Museum Service (booklet in preparation by the Council)
